Founder Story
Meet Adebayo Moyinoluwa
Herbivella was born from lived experience, scientific curiosity, and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by people with melanin‑rich skin. Adebayo Moyinoluwa — a Nigerian‑born founder with a Bachelor's degree in Applied Physics, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence, and ongoing postgraduate studies in education (PGCE) — sits at a rare intersection of science, technology, and human‑centred care.
Growing up in Nigeria, she witnessed widespread skin concerns — hyperpigmentation, dryness, sensitivity, and barrier damage — often worsened by harsh products and misinformation. Dermatology research shows that over 60% of individuals with darker skin tones experience uneven pigmentation, and barrier impairment is one of the fastest‑rising global skin issues. These realities shaped her early interest in formulation science and safe skincare practices.
The turning point came after relocating to the United Kingdom. As an immigrant balancing family responsibilities, postgraduate studies, and financial constraints, she struggled to find skincare that was both gentle and effective — particularly products formulated to respect melanin‑rich skin without harmful bleaching agents. Her research into dermatological literature highlighted a critical gap: the issue was not a lack of demand, but a lack of safe, science‑aligned solutions.
That realisation became the catalyst for Herbivella — a brand committed to developing smarter, barrier‑supportive formulations enhanced by AI‑powered research tools that help customers navigate their skincare choices. Building Herbivella came with challenges: limited funding, navigating UK cosmetic regulations, managing family responsibilities, and establishing a brand in a new country. These experiences shaped the values that define Herbivella today: integrity, innovation, community, and care.
